I have wanted one of these for a long time. I used to rent one whenever I moved into a new place. This is great for unwanted odors of all kinds. Houses, cars, motel rooms. Just be sure to allow time for the area treated to air out after. This is a great tool but it is not good to breathe the ozone.

Bought this to use for hunting clothes but, find that it works well to remove odors from other items as well . Used it in a used car that was purchased from a smoker , used it in a mud room that needed some aromas removed . It does take a few applications , depending on the volumn of the area but, does work . Be sure to heed the advice about breathing ozone .

Had been wanting one of these for a while but the 100.00 dollar price tag kept puttting me off then I found it on Amazon for less and bought one. We love it would have given it a 5 star rating if only it was ac/Dc as some of the places we go electric outlets are kinda hard to come by but it does seem to help, we put deer sent on an old sock and turned on the unit in half an hour there was nothing but a fresh smell of Ozone( a lot like right after a rain shower)

Mabis and sinus

Wonderful inhalation steamer for sinus conditions. I have been plagued with bad chronic sinus conditions for the past 16 years and have been miserable. Four surgeries and still problems. Countless antibiotics, steroid sprays and tablets, etc. Daily treatments morning and evening with the Mabis and the use of NeilMed sinus rinse saline packets has finally given me my life back to a quite productive state again. The Mabis puts out the very necessary copious amounts of steam where other steamers I have owned have failed. The key is that the Mabis concentrates the steam where necessary, into the nasal passages via the small nasal mask. However, it would be an improvement if Mabis would provide a nasal adapter (such as nebulizers have)that directs the steam straight into the nostrils instead of the the small mask which allows the steam to affect the entire nose area. The angled chimney of the inhaler makes it easier to use. However, it too could be improved by the use of a flexible tube or at least have a little more angle so the unit can be easier to use while sitting upright instead of having to hunch over. They should also include more than one misting orifice because saline mixes and hard water will tend to clog the very tiny hole in the mister. Mabis does supply a small cleaning tool (a wire) to ream out a clogged orifice. If you have significant sinus trouble this unit is the best thing you will find. I have used several different devices including the KAZ (no longer made), Vicks (too little steam and not effective, facial type rather than a sinus device). Vicks vaporizer with use of a towel(works but is very hot and brutal on the face). I have used essential oils like cinnamon, clove, thyme, tea tree in the Kaz unit and obtained some relief but the Mabis and saline mix really has been the most beneficial. It doesn’t cure anything but it sure brings some quality of life back. I can’t recommend this device enough. It is very portable and can be easily packed and taken on trips. I used it in my van with an inverter on a recent long trip which was very convenient. I also use it in my sailboat. It utilizes a very small amount of water which makes it simple to use in a mobile fashion. It is easy to clean as well. I suffer 24/7 with chronic sinus, been to countless doctors, taken all types of meds, had multiple surgeries and this little machine at a tiny fraction of the cost has been a big player in my regaining some quality of life. The NeilMed sailine packets are convenient and work well with the unit, I use about a third of a packet with each Mabis session. I have no interest whatsoever with Neilmed. It’s just a convenient sailine product I found at the drugstore and it has helped, so you should know about it. The Mabis is the best steamer you will ever use, don’t waste your $$$ on the other feeble steamers like I did.

Very effective

I had another steam inhaler some years ago, a Kaz TheraSteam. I have problems with my sinuses, and it didn’t help much. I have spent years, and some money, on attempting solutions to my sinus problem, with insufficient success. It’s been getting better over the years, but every now and then I still wake up after 5 or 6 hours of sleep and can’t fall back asleep unless I inhale steam — a hot shower sometimes works, but it basically means getting up and being up for a while, which is no help if it’s less than a two hours before the time I’m supposed to get up anyway.

I was shopping for a new humidifier, and not finding much, when it occurred to me that there might be a better steam inhaler than the one I used to have. I came to Amazon and looked around, and decided on the Mabis. I am glad I did! This item definitely does the job, giving off copious amounts of hot wet steam, which is the perfect remedy for my dry burnt-feeling sinuses. You can even adjust it for the kind of steam you want!

My only quibble is that it says in the instructions that the operating time is 6-9 minutes; it seems to be closer to around 15, which is OK with me. The main thing is that, because of this device, I’ve gotten some sleep that I otherwise would have missed.

Best on the Market

Used it every night for a week since it arrived. Visible stream of mist straight up into the air, but nothing around it gets wet or moist. Have right near the bed and feel no mist whatsoever. Just better breathing and less dry throat. Water tank lasts far more than eight hours. Have yet to get to the automatic turn-off when the tank gets empty. Sleep a full night with higher humidity from a cool stream of vapor. Nothing leaks. No big drops anywhere. Little need for a towel underneath it, but aftr reading all of the horrendouse reviews about other models, I did not want to take a chance. Getting very comfortable about its safety. Also uses tap water and no signs of chemical build-up. Would recommend spending a little more to get quality like this. Absolutely silent. I like a little white noise in the room, but this is so quiet, if you like white noise, you almost have to run an air purifier in the same room. The only thing is the extra bright blue LED on the front indicating that the humidifier is working. Wow! Lights up the whole room. Easily remedied though by taping a small piece of cardboard to hang over the light. I don’t know how it works, but it sure does work well. Watch the video from QVC on YouTube. It looks just like that when operating, and practically right out of the box. And the product is solidly made and the tank holds more than a gallon. I would trust running this in my baby granddaughter’s room when she gets stuffy. This product is as good, if not better, than advertised.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!! my sinuses thank me daily

I received one as a gift about a month ago after talking to my doctor about being prone to dry skin (winter, NE weather), sore throats and overall sinus issues due to allergens in the house ( its an old house).

It is awesome, its sooooo silent and easy to maintain. it comes with a 3 yr warranty. Mine is the 31207 which is the model in Black. It also came with a vapor pad that you can add, which I did this week since I have some sort of cold/flu/virus right now… which works great in my small bedroom as the odor is not over powering.

Without the vapor pad it works well too, it neutralizes odors in the room, and its so silent. I was worried that after a week it would get noisy, but no. Amazing, best gift everrrr.

I logged on to the Hunter website to order my replacement vapor pads and also some other ones and the price for parts ( wear and tear exchanges of course not malfunction) are fairly decent.
****UPDATE 1/29/12**** turns out the vapor pads are discontinued for this humidifier, but no worries, you can use VICKS vapor refill pads Model vsp-19 ( avg $5.99 or so for a box of 5 ) which you can find at any pharmacy

Love it, if you have sensitive sinuses, this is item is for you. YOu can use it any time and again its so easy to clean and the parts you hardly replace. [they do recommend the filter 1/month] Im going into 2 months of ownership yet, using it every night and weekends –I think replacement every 2 should suffice

I bought this unit because it gets really dry downstairs especially with the fireplace being on. I can already tell a difference in the air. I noticed the poor reviews given with the UVC light and also read in the manual that if on it indicated that it needed replacing. So, upon calling Hunter, the CSR explained that the blue light indicated that the machine was on and working and that the light would turn red when the UVC light needed replacing. That being said, the machine is indeed working properly, it is very quite, and IMO gives out pretty good humidity at the mid-way mark.

The only cons that I would make mention is the really BRIGHT blue light as I had to cut a piece of cardboard and tape over it to tone it down a notch. Also, the replacement of the demineraliztion filters on a monthly basis.

Gets the job done nicely, but with room for improvement

I’ve had a number of humidifiers and this one fairs favorably to most. First, it uses a cool air wick rather than a sonicator (which puts the water contaminants on your furniture and in your lungs) or a heater (which is inefficient, gets horrible mineral buildup which is very difficult to clean, and can cause fire hazards). It has a huge tank. And it has a thermostat so you can just turn it on and forget about it, aside from refilling it every day or two. It will get the humidity where you want it – not too dry, not too humid. For these reasons, I recommend this unit.

The downsides: It is not as nice as the model it replaced (which I also have) which looks almost exactly the same. The controls and display are a little less obvious – they added more functionality with too few buttons. That is easily dealt with by deciding how you want to use it and then always putting it in that mode. I like to set the fan to low or medium (so it is nice and quiet and you hardly hear it) and then set the humidity to 30, 35, or 40. As others here have mentioned, the hygrometer is a bit flaky. At times it is stable. At times it jumps around a bit. This can lead the system to turn on and off in response to changes in the measured humidity. It still gets the humidity to roughly what you set it to (as I’ve verified with a separate hygrometer). And if you don’t have the fan set too high, you don’t really notice that it turns on and off a bit more than it needs to. Mine has not turned on and off in short succession that frequently, although sometimes it does. It doesn’t appear to impact its efficacy or accuracy, although if the fan is high and the room is quiet, it might really bug some people on the occassions it cuts on and off. Some people here report more aggressive cycling than I’ve observed. Sunbeam really should fix this and ponder a user interface tweak. The improvement over the previous model is that it continuously reports the hygrometer reading, which is really nice.

I’m giving this 4 stars because I still greatly prefer this over all the other humidifiers I’ve ever owned (and about the same as the model this one obsoleted).

Powerful humidifier

For those saying they aren’t sure if it humidifies their room, get a hygrometer. You know, those digital temperature/humidity sensors with the LCD panel. I have one from Honeywell. This humidifier is able to keep my humidity at 40% in a LOFT apartment in Nebraska winters. We’re talking below zero, frozen and humidity in the teens without a humidifier. In a single level apartment, it can get us to 50% but I keep it at 45. It is about twice as capable as a warm mist humidifier that can’t get the room above 30%. PLUS, the warm one requires about 230w of electricity to run vs about 30w for the fan in this one. PLUS, the heater block in the warm mist unit must be soaked in white vinegar and have the minerals scraped off of it periodically. Pain in the butt, and not worth it.

The downside? The filter must be washed in a bucket of soap water every so often or it accumulates pink/black mold and smells funny. It won’t hurt you, but it is unpleasant. That’s the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars.

I like the automatic setting. I want 45%? It will hold it there. That way I don’t have to touch the thing until its running empty.

Use distilled water ONLY for the best results, as with all humidifiers.

Very effective but a little loud

No, it is not the quietest humidifier on the block, but its no worse than a box fan in the window in the summer. I find it very effective at doing its job and it is easy to maintain. With regular use and recommended filter changes, mold is not an issue and it removes some of the dust from the air. The only reason I’m replacing it is because I damaged the one I’ve had for 3 years when I moved. Getting another one just like it.

Initial impression is outstanding…

UPDATE 08/09/11 – Bad John requested an update… so here goes… after 4 months, still very satisfied. During the colder months, it never really did go much lower than 48% when the temperature was around 60 in the basement, it got down to around 45% RH and that was as good as it could do. Although 45% humidity at 60 degrees was certainly acceptable. For the past few weeks we have had outdoor temperatures running between 80 and nearly 100 degrees with beastly humidity (at least for the northeast). My basement has been in the mid to upper 70′s and I have the control on the dehumidifier set for 45%. It is currently 75 degrees and 40% humidity, at least according to the thermometer/hygrometer sitting on the shelf 3 feet away from the unit. The unit cycles off and on rather frequently, but it does not run continuously, although that is obviously a very subjective observation that would be influenced by outdoor and indoor temperatures, RH, rainfall, and water infiltration into the basement drainage/sump, as well as the setting of the dehumidifier controls. So overall, I would still recommend this as a solid choice. Longevity remains to be seen, but so far, so good…

Effective, quiet, well-designed

This is my newest Sunpentown dehumidifier. I got my first (an SD-60E) almost 2 years ago. I’ve used many home dehumidifiers (Hampton Bay, Maytag, Fedders, Amana, Whirlpool) over many years. My two Sunpentowns are the most effective by any measure. Their water buckets are bigger, yet need to be emptied as often or more, even when used in the basement where temperatures are lower and many dehumidifiers lose effectiveness. I can now keep my whole house under 45% with only two dehumidifiers where I used to need three. Also, they’re quieter, which is very important. At first I worried that they occasionally seemed to run unnecessarily, but I now realize they’re smart devices and sometimes move air (with compressor off) just to monitor it better. They don’t need to be reset after a power failure. The filters are easy to remove and vacuum. Also, readings are more accurate than on older models. One very minor complaint: I could wish for a pause button (off for an hour, then resume, in case you want super quiet for a while). But overall I’m far happier with my two SPTs than any other dehumidifiers.

Great product

I purchased SPT SD-65E 65 pint dehumidifier in October after my home was nearly flooded. The water came up to within 5 inches of coming into my house. All of my insulation and ductwork had to be torn out. Under my house had to be sprayed 3 times with clorox mixture to prevent mold. I knew there was a lot of moisture inside my home. The first week I used the dehumidifier, I emptied the tank 14 times in SIX days. The humidity level is now maintained at a steady 45 to 50%. It is efficient and very quiet except when it goes into defrost mode. I am using it now in conjunction with my gas logs to control the humidity level. I am very pleased with the operation of the Sunpentown SD-65E. I have reccommended it to many people since I received mine. Thank you for such an efficient product. Jack Jarvis, Washington, NC
