Air-o-swiss 2055 Air Washer

Consumers search online to compare air purifiers because they can capture a lot of information in one location. When comparing products, make sure you are looking at a unit that has a HEPA filter. These filters remove ninety-nine percent of all the small particles that are in the air. For people who suffer from allergies, asthma or respiratory problems, then a machine with a HEPA filter could very well help them breathe easier.

We are going to compare air purifiers that are popular at this time. The first one is the Blueair 601. It is a rather expensive model that sells for around seven hundred dollars. However, it is worth the money and offers relief to allergy and asthma sufferers. It features a HEPA filter that clears rooms up to six hundred and seventy nine feet. The filter is easy to remove and should be replaced every six months or so. This needs to be done in order to keep the warranty valid. The filters are a little expensive though. It features a ten year limited warranty.

To compare air purifiers we must also include the IQair Healthpro Plus. This unit features three different filters that include a chemical and odor-trapping filter known as the V5 Cell. This filter traps gases and odors, which translates into cleaner air in the home. This particular filter is rather expensive but does not need to be replaced for a year or two. This purifier clears rooms up to nine hundred square feet effectively. This machine is also great for people that suffer from allergies and asthma. This unit features a limited warranty of five years.

To compare air purifiers we are going to include the Air-O-Swiss 2055 Ionizing AirWasher and Humidifier. This machine cleans the air and adds moisture to it, which is a unique combination. It pulls air into the machine over several discs that are placed in water. The pollutants are then trapped in the water and the purified air is released back into the room. This machine seems to work best in a smaller room. This unit also needs to be frequently cleaned because the water gets dirty quite quickly. It clears rooms up to six hundred square feet and includes a warranty of ten years.

3Wait. You want to pay HOW MUCH for this thing?

Having been directed to an evaporative type humidifier, I became intrigued with the basic design of the Venta and AirOSwiss models. Both use fans to draw air over water, with turning discs passing through the water with tiny grooves and bumps on the discs to vastly increase the surface area over which the water evaporates. No heat to worry about drying out and automatically shutting off, and no bubbling water from a warm mist unit. Also, no droplets of water accumulating on nearby carpet or furniture as you would see with an ultrasonic humidifier. Also, no swampy mold accumulating in the ‘swamp style’ Honeywell unit that uses a wicking method to draw the water up into a sponge to then be evaporated, leaving a wet sponge to grow all kinds of stuff. The pros and cons are pretty clear:

1Not so much

I purchased this humidifier online from the Air-o-Swiss website. It arrived clearly misassembled and damaged. I can’t believe they didn’t look in the box before shipping it to me (the IRS could straighten these guys out, too). After figuring out what was wrong, I sent emails with photos and explanations, had many discussions, and was told they would get back to me. They never did and are now after 30 days refusing to let me return the unit. After repairing it myself, it doesn’t produce enough humidity to get a forced-air heated room up to 30% RH (45% is recommended). It does evaporate the whole reservoir overnight, so I think the problem is simply that it only holds one gallon. Need a larger reservoir, but the problem there is you have to fill it. Also, a humidistat is a must-have. As a sidenote, if you need to get a separate hygrometer, go digital, analogs are inaccurate no matter how often you calibrate them. Finally, my best advice is just get a furnace-mounted whole house unit and skip these portable units if you’re looking to increase humidity by more than a few percent.
