Air O Swiss Reviews

Whether the Cool Mist Humidifiers are the ultrasonic or the evaporative type of humidifier, they are excellent to restore a comfortable level of humidity back into the rooms of the home. These two types of models have different methods of introducing cooled mist to the home.

  • Evaporative models utilize fans to pull the dry air from the room through wick, or filter, which is made of an especially absorbent material. The wick is placed at the bottom of the humidifier to absorb the water from the base. The fan blows the moist air into the wick and as the water evaporates it’s blown throughout the room as moisturized air. There’s no heating element and the moist air is kept at room temperature; which also means it’s energy-efficient because the only electricity required is to run the fan that blows the moisturized air back into the room.
  • The Ultrasonic models are somewhat different from the evaporative models because they use a metal diaphragm that vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency. This process converts the water into a fine vapor that is dispersed into the room. The demineralization cartridges are used with this model to prevent the “white dust” from forming and being dispersed by the blowers.

Top Models

There are a variety of models that are either evaporative or ultrasonic that are highly rated as some of the best on the market. These are rated based on consumer reviews, reliability, requirements for maintenance and frequency of service, as well as features and price. Some of the top models are shown in the following:

  • One of the best Cool Mist Humidifiers is the Essick Air 5D6-700. It’s an evaporative model that has a three gallon tank and can restore the humidity to a room up to 110 square feet, and can output up to five gallons of cool mist per day. This model has four speeds, is very quiet, and delivers clean, moist air.
  • Another model that is very highly rated is the Air-o-Swiss Ultrasonic, Model 7144. This model is quiet, with a beautiful sleek, elegant design. It has a built-in humidistat that monitors the quantity of humidity in the air and it maintains the desired range that is set by the consumer. It’s designed with silver ion technology for antibacterial protection, and it comes with a demineralization cartridge to minimize the white dust issues so prevalent with many of the ultrasonic models. This model has a 1½ gallon tank that can provide moisture to up to 650 square feet.

Things to Consider

There are a number of things to look for when shopping for Cool Mist Humidifiers, such as the models that have an ultraviolet light and offers “Germ-free” technology that uses this light to eliminate up to 99 percent of the germs, viruses, and bacteria that may dwell in the water. This is particularly recommended for those with small children or people who are prone to pulmonary distress and asthma. Look for models that have a container that is easy to fill and clean – if they are dishwasher save, even better. The lighter weight models are easily carried, particularly for those with arthritis or people who can’t lift much weight. Regardless of which type is purchased, there is a model that is perfect for restoring comfort to the home.

5Worth It
By Shoegazer
I had been pricing and comparing the substantial number of humidifiers on the market and I am glad I settled on the Air-O-Swiss. Despite its higher price, I am quite satisfied with its functions, control, design and specifically, its quiet operation. I was looking to pay between $70-150 for a quiet, low-maintenance model to add humidity to my [very dry] 10×12′ bedroom. I purchased it at a local store for the same price as listed on Amazon; I am glad I was able to see [and hear] this model in operation.

There is NO sound, even at the highest setting. I’m a light sleeper and cannot fathom a bedroom appliance that even approaches a dull hum.
